Clouds

John Constable, “Cloud Studies” ☁️ • Cumulus – Stratus – Cirrus – Nimbus • Do you know your clouds? John Constable certainly did! Although he devoted himself to painting directly from nature his whole live long life, in the early 1820s Constable began a meditation on the skies, spending long hours painting the fleeting wisps wandering above his head. • Some works are inscribed “11 o’clock” and “Noon” – indicating that they took him about an hour to paint. Other captions read almost as if poetry: “Clouds, effect bright and fresh … moving very fast; with occasional bright openings to the blue.” • Wishing you lovely bright openings for your weekend! • • • #art #history #arthistory #artist #painting #portrait #landscape #cloud #sky #nature #study #cloudstudy #blue #interior #interiordesign #design #decor #style #gallery #museum #antique #curator #travel #18thcentury #19thcentury #Constable #BritishArt #Yale #NewHaven #Connecticut
